Important changes beginning November 2026
As we prepare for the upcoming traditional youth wrestling season, WWC Wrestling is excited to announce several important updates to our programs, practice schedules, and enrollment policies.
These changes reflect our continued commitment to providing a positive, structured, and developmentally appropriate wrestling experience for athletes of all ages and experience levels.
Our goal is simple: give wrestlers the right training opportunities at the right stages of their development while continuing to build the personal character that defines our organization.
Beginning in November, families will see several changes designed to improve practice consistency, strengthen our developmental pathway, and create additional opportunities for both boys and girls.
PASSION FIRST WRESTLING ACADEMY — EXPANDED TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
Our Passion First Wrestling Academy is the foundation of WWC's developmental system, introducing young athletes to wrestling in a fun, positive, and structured environment.
Beginning in November, Passion First will transition to a new twice-weekly practice schedule.
New Passion First Schedule:
Tuesday: 5:15–6:15 PM
Thursday: 5:15–6:15 PM
Friday Passion First practices will be discontinued following October 30, 2026.
Our new Passion First membership will include access to both weekly practices, providing additional opportunities for wrestlers to develop fundamental skills, build confidence, and progress through our curriculum.

WWC FOLKSTYLE WRESTLING — REFINED TRAINING GROUPS
Our competitive Folkstyle Wrestling program will continue providing structured training opportunities for wrestlers who have progressed beyond the beginner level.
For the November 2026–February 2027 season, our training groups will be organized as follows:
P1 Folkstyle Wrestling — Kindergarten through 5th Grade
P1 focuses on developing and refining the fundamental wrestling skills, positional understanding, competitive habits, and personal character needed for long-term success.
P2 Folkstyle Wrestling — 6th through 8th Grade
P2 provides an appropriately challenging training environment for older wrestlers, with increased emphasis on technical development, tactical understanding, physical preparation, and competitive performance.
Coaches will continue making individual placement decisions when appropriate to ensure wrestlers train in an environment suited to their development.
NEW FRIDAY FOLKSTYLE PRACTICE FORMAT
One of our most significant scheduling improvements involves Friday practices.
Previously, P1 and P2 wrestlers trained together during a combined Friday session.
Beginning in November, Friday Folkstyle practices will be separated into dedicated P1 and P2 sessions.
This adjustment will allow our coaching staff to provide more focused instruction, organize practices around the developmental needs of each group, and create a more productive training environment.
Families should review the updated schedule for their assigned training group.

GIRLS WRESTLING — GREATER INTEGRATION AND OPPORTUNITY
WWC remains strongly committed to the continued growth and development of girls wrestling.
Beginning in November, our separate Girls Only enrollment program will be incorporated into our standard WWC Folkstyle Wrestling membership structure.
Girls-only practices are NOT going away!
Instead, girls enrolled in WWC Folkstyle Wrestling will have access to:
Two dedicated girls-only practices each week
Regular coed Folkstyle training opportunities with their assigned P1 or P2 group
A comprehensive developmental and competitive wrestling experience within the same overall program
Our dedicated girls-only practices will be held:
Tuesday: 6:30–8:00 PM
Thursday: 6:30–8:00 PM
This approach preserves the benefits of girls training together while providing additional opportunities for technical development, consistent practice, and participation in our broader wrestling program.
We believe this structure will help strengthen girls wrestling at WWC while providing a more unified and flexible training experience.
UPDATED BEGINNER ENROLLMENT POLICY — BOYS AND GIRLS
An important part of our developmental philosophy is ensuring that young athletes establish a strong foundation before entering a more advanced competitive environment.
Beginning with our updated enrollment policies, all new wrestlers in kindergarten through fifth grade—boys and girls—must successfully complete Passion First Wrestling Academy before advancing into WWC Folkstyle Wrestling.
Previously, some beginner girls had the option to enter our Girls Only program directly.
Moving forward, the same developmental pathway will apply to all new K–5 wrestlers.
This policy helps ensure that young athletes receive appropriate introductory instruction, establish sound fundamental techniques, and develop the confidence and readiness needed for more advanced training.
Coaches may approve individual placement exceptions based on a wrestler's prior experience, ability, and developmental needs.
Our goal is not to rush wrestlers into competition, but to provide a pathway that prepares them for a rewarding and successful experience in the sport.
BLACK SHIRT WRESTLERS — THE NEXT STEP IN DEVELOPMENT
With the traditional youth wrestling season beginning, this is also an excellent time for current Passion First Black Shirt wrestlers to consider advancing into P1 Folkstyle Wrestling.
For many Black Shirts, P1 represents an exciting opportunity to build upon their foundation, embrace new challenges, and experience a more advanced training environment.
Transitioning at the beginning of the season provides time to adjust to increased training expectations, continue building confidence, and prepare for upcoming competitive opportunities.
Every wrestler progresses at their own pace, but we encourage Black Shirts who are ready for the next challenge to take advantage of this opportunity!
WHAT ABOUT CURRENT MEMBERS?
We recognize and appreciate the commitment of our existing WWC families.
WWC continues to offer flexible, month-to-month memberships without long-term commitments.
Families may manage their existing memberships through their WWC accounts.
OUR COMMITMENT TO THE DEVELOPMENTAL PROCESS
Although our programs and schedules continue to evolve, the principles behind Wrestling With Character remain unchanged.
We believe that wrestling provides a powerful opportunity to teach young people lessons that extend far beyond the mat.
Our approach emphasizes:
Development before results: Building a strong foundation of skills, habits, and understanding.
Character through wrestling: Teaching accountability, discipline, resilience, respect, and perseverance.
Appropriate progression: Providing training environments that challenge athletes without rushing their development.
Positive competitive experiences: Helping athletes learn, grow, and develop confidence through competition.
Long-term participation: Creating an environment where young wrestlers enjoy the process and develop a lasting appreciation for the sport.
These updates are designed to strengthen that philosophy and help us better serve our growing wrestling community.
LOOKING AHEAD TO AN EXCITING SEASON!
We're excited about the opportunities these changes will create for our wrestlers, families, and coaching staff.
From our newest Passion First beginners to our developing P1 and P2 competitors, we remain committed to providing high-quality instruction, meaningful challenges, and a positive team environment.
We sincerely appreciate the support, flexibility, and commitment of our WWC families as we prepare for another outstanding wrestling season.
Thank you for being part of Wrestling With Character!
